This Concealed Dress by Issey Miyake is created from a single pattern, like drawing the body and the space around it onto a single canvas. By further advancing the simple structure of “forming a tube from a single piece of cloth and slipping it over the body,” we created a beautiful form that consciously reflects the interplay between body and cloth. The fabric uses thick Japanese Washi thread blended with 60/- cotton thread, woven into a slightly textured structure. The fabric’s inherent rigidity is leveraged to accentuate the three-dimensionality of the space, while the body-hugging fit emphasizes the contrast between the body and its surrounding space.

Made in Japan.

Issey Miyake

Legendary Japanese designer Issey Miyake debuted his eponymous womenswear label in 1971, charting a half century of work in fashion design. An industry pioneer, Miyake’s clothing blends traditional Japanese techniques with forward-thinking technology. The brand is famous for their pleating technique which led to the debut of Pleats Please in 1993. Much of Miyake’s work is informed by an architectural approach to design, seen in sculptural silhouettes and clothing with purpose. Vibrant colors, advanced pattern making, and a devotion to curiosity are hallmarks of this fashion house now led by Satoshi Kondo.
